Established in April 2005, forerunner of the D. C. Lau Research Centre for Chinese Ancient Texts is the Chinese Ancient Texts (CHANT) Database Project that began in 1988 at the Institute of Chinese Studies. Its goals are to build up an electronic database of the entire corpus of traditional and excavated ancient Chinese texts, to conduct relevant research, and to publish the findings via different media.

The appointee will be responsible for
(a) assisting in data and image processing, data entry, and typesetting the document layout;
(b) updating the Centre’s website; and
(c) performing other duties as assigned.
Applicants should have/be
(i) completed secondary education;
(ii) Grade E/Level 2 or above in at least 5 subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese and English (Syllabus B); OR any combination of results in at least 5 HKDSE subjects (including Level 2 or above in Chinese and English): Level 2 or above in NSS subjects, “Attained” or above in ApL subjects (subject to a maximum of 2 subjects), and Grade E or above in Other Language subjects;
(iii) preferably with a Bachelor’s degree, or a Diploma in Design or related disciplines from a recognised technical institute;
(iv) fast and accurate Chinese and English word-processing skills;
(v) solid experience on image processing software (including but not limited to Adobe Photoshop);
(vi) experience in data processing software (including but not limited to MS Word and Excel, and Illustrator);
(vii) knowledge of website updating (especially with Visual Studio Code);
(viii) a strong sense of responsibility, initiative and attentiveness to detail; and
(ix) good communication and interpersonal skills.

Appointment will initially be made on a 1-year contract commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
